Arslan Senki (TV)
The Heroic Legend of Arslan

In the prosperous kingdom of Pars lies the Royal Capital of Ecbatana, a city of splendor
and wonder, ruled by the undefeated and fearsome King Andragoras. Arslan is the young
and curious prince of Pars who, despite his best efforts, doesn’t seem to have what it
takes to be a proper king like his father.

At the age of 14, Arslan goes to his first battle and loses everything as the blood-soaked mist of war gives way to scorching flames, bringing him to face the demise of his once glorious kingdom. However, it is Arslan’s destiny to be a ruler, and despite the trials that face him,
he must now embark on a journey to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

Who thought it was a good idea to do prologue and filler for a first episode.

How is this a filler when it’s exactly what happened in the first chapter of the manga ?

The source material itself can have filler chapters too that are introductory, side-story-ish, and/or just waste time.

After your comment, I searched online, and it looks like the original source material is a novel series, which makes a little more sense. In a novel, you can’t use a bunch of art to depict the setting, thus it’s often necessary to have a prologue and an intro chapter to establish the setting and feel of the world. However, good authors will write interesting intro chapters that make you interested in the characters and really hook you into the world, and this did nothing like that – the characters felt empty, and the story seemed more interested in the setting than its characters.

When this was made into a manga and now anime, they should fixed it for the medium, not straight info-dump the prologue and then have a chase scene that was way too long (with conversations about giraffes, really?).

Compare this to Twelve Kingdoms or most recently, Yona, and you’ll see how this is just a horrible start. I’ll give it another ep, but I just don’t have a good feeling about this.

Well the novel isn’t really masterpiece tier, and Arakawa doesn’t have the time to be styling with the manga adaptation, so I’d guess that the editors are making the shots here.

Still, the manga has a nice flow to it, so I expect the anime to do the same, but what I’m concerned about is what will they do with the ending.

What i’ll give for anothet show on 12 Kingdoms, much better for me than Akatsuki Yona which is nice however. As for the arslan’s novel, don’t know masterpiece or not but his author Tanaka is well known in japan with his other saga Galaxy heroes & i too curious for the ending causeonly 2 volume so far by Arakawa in japan

Never become a writer or editor.
